Umling La or Umlung La is the highest paved road and mountain pass in the world, located in Ladakh, India, on the ridgeline between Koyul Lungpa and the Indus River near Demchok. At an elevation of 5,882.64 metres (19,300.0 ft), it forms the source for the Umlung stream that drains into the Indus and a tributary of the Kiungdul river that drains into Koyul Lungpa. Also called the Umling La Road, which ascends to a height of 5882.64 metres (19,300 feet) in the vicinity of the pass, making it the world's highest motorable road. Hanle is home to the Indian Astronomical Observatory. The location of the village and the observatory are highly sensitive due to the close proximity of the Tibetan / Chinese border. India set up the Himalayan Chandra Telescope, a 2m gamma ray telescope at Hanle. Entire drive from Pangong Lake to Chushul - Rezangla - Hanley is most scenic and full of Panorama. Itinerary Details
Transfer to hotel and day for rest and acclimatization. Evening explore Shanti Stupa and Leh market.
After leisurely breakfast visit Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery. Post lunch drive to visit Hall of Fame, Kali Mata (Temple of Guardians in Spituk monastery), Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Point and Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar rivers). Arrive hotel in Leh for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley, also known as Valley of flowers via Khardungla, the highest motorable road in the World, (18,380 ft). On your arrival in Nubra Valley check in the hotel / camp After a sumptuous lunch take a walk on the banks of Shayok river, Later drive to explore Diskit monastery and adjoining Maitreya Buddha Statue offers an incridble view of Nubra Valley. Back to the hotel and overnight stay.
After breakfast drive to explore Diskit Monastery founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley belongs to the Gelugpa sect. drive further to reach Turtuk which is the last outpost of Indian Army. Beautiful village with full of apricot trees. Back to Nubra Valley and en route stop at Hundar Sand Dunes where you can enjoy a short camel safari using the double-humped Bactrian camel found here (optional on direct payment). Overnight at the hotel in Nubra.
After Breakfast leave for Pangong Lake 14,500 ft, drive of 6 - 7 Hrs. Arrival at Camp, Later free time at Leisure and enjoy the color changing lake and the sun set on the banks of lake. O/N Pangong Lake
Start your beautiful drive to Hanley via Man - Merak village at the Pangong lake and further to Chushul village. Approx. 40 kms drive will take you to Chushul. Further drive to reach at Rezangla war memorial About 3 km northwest of Rechin La is a pass that was the site of a major battle of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. The "C" Company of India's 13 Kumaon battalion( pure Ahir battalion), made of Ahir soldiers, fought to the last man in an effort to block the Chinese PLA troops from crossing the ridge into the Chushul Valley. In which 1500+ PLA troops were killed by the 120 Indian Soldiers.
Continue drive to Hanley and on arrival check in at the hotel / Home stay / guest house for overnight stay.

After breakfast you have option to reach at TsoMoriri either via Mnahe bridge or via Chumur. Via Chumur ha more distance to drive which may cause a little more transport expenses. After breakfast drive to Jispa, Stop at Tsokar lake, further drive will take you to Leh - Manali ghway and drive down to Pang - Sarchu and Baralacha Pass. Check in at your hotel in Jispa and overnight stay.
